Getting ready to launch your business? Congrats!

Launching is an exciting time, but it’s also mixed with a lot of anxiety. Brand-new business owners tend to feel anxious about the launches because so much is on the line.

Mistakes happen. It’s hard to know what you don’t know, especially if you’re new to running a business.

Everybody makes mistakes during their launch. However, you can save yourself some heartache by avoiding these 5 common business launch mistakes.

Mistake #1: Perfectionism

Have you ever heard the quote, “Perfect is the enemy of progress?” If you’re obsessing over every little detail in your business launch, you won’t get anything done.

And, spoiler alert: perfectionism doesn’t improve the quality of your launch, anyway. It’s okay to put something out that isn’t 100%. Sometimes “good enough” really is good enough, especially if you’re a perfectionist.

Mistake #2: Bleeding money

Your launch is going to cost something, but there’s a difference between wise investments and bleeding cash.

It’s tempting to spend a lot of money right now, but you have to be careful. As a small business, you don’t have a lot of cash resources; should you really put all of your faith into expensive Facebook Ads?

We’re all for spending money where it makes sense. But to know if something is a wise purchase, tap into your goals. What do you need to get out of this launch? How will this purchase help you get there?

If it’s a nice-to-have purchase, save it for later. Focus on the most critical expenses for now.

Mistake #3: Going at it alone

Yes, you’re a strong, confident, independent business owner. You have the power to handle things by yourself.

But just because you can walk alone doesn’t mean you have to go alone. Everybody needs cheerleaders in their corner. Whether that’s your spouse, parents, friends, or an online community, get people behind you.

Launching a business is stressful! These folks will keep your head on straight when you need support and advice.

Mistake #4: Not having a launch plan

No matter how simple your launch is, you still need a proper, written launch plan. You can wing some things in business, but your launch isn’t one of them.

Writing down your launch plan helps you have a clear, strategic way forward. When things get hectic, it’s your north star for all things progress.

Mistake #5: Allowing negativity

You don’t have to be Little Miss Sunshine during your business launch. This is a stressful time, and you’re going to feel anxious or overwhelmed. It happens.

But that doesn’t mean you should give space to your inner critic. This is the voice in your head that says things like, “I’m not good enough” or “Nobody cares.” This will only hinder your progress and destroy your self-esteem. If you wouldn’t say something to a friend, don’t say it to yourself.

Business launches are a big deal and we know how exhausting they can be. Be kind to yourself, especially if this is your first launch. Avoid these 5 common missteps to put your business out there for the world to see. Sure, you’ll make a few mistakes, but you’ll only become stronger because of them. You’ve got this!
